Educators act ethically and maintain the integrity, credibility and reputation of the profession.
Over the course of my practicums, I have acted responsibly in school, in public, and on social media. I did this because I understand that I am supposed to act as a role model to students in all manners. In addition, I understand that our conduct in and outside the school contributes to how the public sees the teaching profession. This is why all teacher candidates need to ensure that they are maintaining all the teaching standards all the time.
A few instances of me upholding this standard include:
- Ensuring that my coaching teacher and I where the only one present when discussing students. For example, we ensured the door was shut, so that any other person walking by would not hear confidential information.
- I ensured that email, in-terms, and any other documentation was kept confidential. For example, when sending emails regarding students, the subject line was written using initials only, so that it was confidential.
- Ensuring that students are not gossip/complain about another teacher in the classroom.
